There are two types of
Elephants, the Asian and African. The Asian elephant is smaller in size,
has smaller ears and a defined forehead.
Elephants LOVE banana’s. They are vegetarians and enjoy many fruits and
veggies like watermelon, cucumbers, and corn.
Elephants eat 20 HOURS a day. They will sit in a field and graze on grass
all day long.
Elephants live as long as humans do. Their life span is one of the
longest in animal history, living till about 70 years.
Elephants develop 6 sets of molar teeth in a lifetime. When one set falls
out, another grows in to replace it. After the last set decays elephants
usually pass away due to the inability to chew food.
Male elephants have tusk that are made of ivory, which never stop growing in
their lifetime. They can reach up to 1.8m in length. The only other
animal that produces ivory tusk is the walrus.
Elephants have magnificent hearing due to their
LARGE EARS. Their ears act as amplifiers and are the best among all land
creatures.
Elephants are hairy. Elephants make look hairless but when seen up close
they actually are covered with tiny thin hairs.
Elephants sleep standing up. These animals weigh TONS and if they were to
sleep on their side they can crush their organs.
Elephants are the LARGEST of all land creatures. They can weight any
where between 5,000 to 12,000 pounds and up to 9ft. tall.
Elephant’s skin is 1 inch thick and despite how rough it looks it actually is
very sensitive.
Elephants enjoy taking baths very much. An elephant will hose itself down
with its trunk. They don’t stay clean for long though. As
soon as an elephant gets out of the water they will cover themselves with dirt
to keep cool.
Elephants use their trunk to communicate with each other by touching one
another.
When an elephant is pregnant she will carry her baby for 22 months. Two
hours after the baby is born it is able to stand up.
Most of the sounds in movies that you hear actually come from elephants.
Their roars and different trunk sounds are mistaken for other animals.
The Asian elephant is endangered and needs our help before it becomes extinct.
